Very exciting news! The partnership between Fareshare and Transition Bath is set to begin in earnest this month, with the first delivery of food rolling out on the 10th of October.
The reason Transition Bath is so excited about this particular venture, is because we’re part of something that’s being attempted for the first time:
Up until now, Fareshare have operated out of their own depots, limiting food deliveries to the local geographical area. This new partnership, however, will extend the range of Fareshare’s Bristol depot and enable them to reach organisations helping the vulnerable people of Bath. This will allow much more of what would otherwise be waste food to be put to good use.
Of course there are many other benefits to the Fareshare scheme, including a considerable financial saving for the organisations involved, less waste going to landfill and improved prospects for the volunteers - many of whom come from the groups Fareshare delivers food to and who are seeking a way back into employment.
The end goal of this project will be to see Bath open up its own food depot as a direct result of the collaboration between Fareshare and Transition Bath. If successful, this could become a model for similar alliances up and down the country.
So, good luck with the first deliveries. We will keep everyone posted as to how it all goes.
