Energy Group
Our aim is to develop and implement an Energy Descent Plan for Bath to respond to the twin threats of Peak Oil and Climate Change. To do this we need to identify and encourage positive changes within Bath. An essential part of this initiative will be working with policy makers, communities and interest groups, focusing on educating and enabling people (including us) to take action.
Our projects:
Hydro Project: showcases local alternative energy and makes a modest contribution to self-sufficiency
OWL meter project
: to encourage homeowners to reduce electricity usage has been wound up but the meters are available to buy at only £10 each. Click for details.
We have also produced a simple-to-follow set of ideas which anyone can use to help meet our aims.

We have already (May 2010) set up a 'not for profit' company called Bath Community Energy (BCE) Ltd. This is initially to pursue the Hydro scheme at Bathampton, and its aim is to offer some return on investment as cash flow permits but to also to reserve a proportion of income to finance other projects and support other Transition activities. It is hoped to be able to issue a prospectus around the end of 2010.
We usually monthly (currently at the Bell in Walcot St) to review our progress and we are always looking for new initiatives.
The next meeting is a special one on Thursday Sept 9, at 7.30pm at 16 Pulteney Gdns, which is Ozzie Ffield's house where he has nearly completed improvements to make it approx 60% more energy-efficient than previously. This is his OHFFF - 'Old Home Fit For the Future'. Refreshments will be provided.
