On 22nd February we invited everyone who has been involved in transition and anyone interested to look at our journey so far. Around 45 people came for a food share and discussion to the ‘Love Lounge’ at the Bell pub who generously donated the space. Transition Bath has now been in existence for two years and during that time we have put a lot of energy into raising awareness through talks, forums and films. We have learnt how to retro-fit our houses, grow fish in our gardens, look at the human cost of climate change and much more. Our film nights on eco related subjects have prompted some very lively discussions. Sometimes with so much activity it has been difficult at times to choose how many nights a week we want to be out.
In April we worked in partnership with two students from Bath Spa University who devised an art exhibition and a film around the theme of allotments and together with the Kilter Theatre Company held an event in Queens Square. We have a regular monthly presence with a stall on the Farmers Market which continues to generate interest and now have a dedicate team running it. In November we ran an extremely successful and very busy all day Big Event . Workshops and talks were fully booked and the BRSLI was buzzing with activity and energy and we received very positive feedback. Many, many people became aware of what Transition Bath was all about and we now have some new active members.
For the review we worked in small groups to discuss our focus over the next year and what practical action we could take. The net result after much discussion and exchange of ideas, many of which we are as yet unable to move forward, has been the formation of some new groups. There is a group organising a social evening where people can come and share ideas, debate the issues and share food. These will take place on the last Monday of each month. The first one has been organised for the 29th March at 7.15 at the Bell Pub. Another group is looking at the whole issue of economics and Transition and will be focussing on Lets and a Bath pound. There is a group looking at energy saving in the home and how we can start working with home owners. Community Supported Agriculture is something we looked at last year and has now re-emerged. The first meeting will be on Friday 15th March at 7.30 at 55 New King Street. Another group will focus on how Transition Bath engages with related local issues and initiatives from BANES particularly the Core Strategy. Further details of the groups and meetings will appear on the Web site as they get going. |
